Boys Coach of the Year
MORGAN CARLSON

Coach Carlson is notorious for his passion for the game, and his time is well spent educating his players on what is important. He spends time sitting down with and visiting with his players about goals, what is or isn't important, and how to achieve those goals. He is 100% committed to the teams he coaches, and his work rate and the schedule he keeps more than shows it. He lets the players make decisions because it is their team, and then puts in the time and effort to support those decisions. He definitely practices what he preaches because he expects 100% and gives it!

Coach Carlson is an excellent motivator at practice and games. His loud/clear voice rings out instruction to his players on the field. His knowledge of the game is unsurpassed, and he expects and gets 100% from his players. He absolutely encourages creativity on the field. He helps build self-confidence in his players, and he definitely encourages players to seek higher competition. Players are expected to be able to juggle 1000 juggles and spend time on their own practicing and perfecting their technical game. He frequently asks the players what they are doing on their day off and encourages them to spend time with the ball.

Coach Carlson is always a student of the game. He studies games on tape, world cup games, and professional games. He is able to teach fakes and moves to players that are on a professional level as well as teach them the context they should be used in on the field. Morgan has coached soccer for about 19 years. He has a C License, is a certified referee, and coaches at least 3 teams each season.

Coach Carlson is definitely well known in his own soccer community as well in the state of Utah. Most all clubs are familiar with him as he coaches so many teams and sets up so many scrimmage games with other club teams. He is willing to do training for any player that wants it.

One of the most amazing things is that Coach Carlson is not a paid coach, as most club coaches are. It is unbelievable to watch this man arrange his schedule to make it to games and practices for the Valencia boys U-12, U-15, U-16, and U-17 premier teams. He no longer has children that play for UYSA but he still dedicates every free minute of his time serving the youth in Cache Valley.
