Volunteer of the Year
SHELLEY GILLWALD

Although her official role for our Club is as the Registrar, Shelley Gillwald works tirelessly keeping all aspects of the Park City Extreme Soccer Club running smoothly. As Registrar, she is often on the front lines for communication; Shelley hears the questions and concerns of the club members daily. There is a vast difference between hearing what people say and actually listening to the message they have for the club. Shelley bridges this gap.

Shelley truly listens to people expressing needs or wants and takes necessary action to implement their suggestions and bring them to the attention of the Board for resolution. For instance, many club families were expressing concern that it was difficult to pay the annual club registration fee in a single lump sum as was required by the club for participation. Shelley listened to the concerns of working families and lobbied the Board to allow payment by credit card and or smaller payments to be made during the course of the year, helping to make soccer more affordable for all.

Shelley also acts as a liaison between the League and the Extreme Club coaching staff. When the schedules come out, she charts them on a master schedule and reviews any conflicts with the coaches and makes sure the team managers are aware of the games where a coach is expected to be in two different places at one time so necessary adjustments can be made. Further she works directly with the people in Park City whose job it is to schedule field space. She proactively alerts them to any double booked fields or field scheduling conflicts, actively inquires as to when fields will be available for spring play after the Park City snow melt, and initiates fields and or game time changes to accommodate referee scheduling.

Shelley is an experienced and outstanding team manager for one of the boys U-14 teams. Since she has been doing this for a number of years, other team managers have learned to seek her out as a resource for their questions and unique team challenges. Shelley is very generous with her time and knowledge and has helped many of the other team managers in our club. She also helped compile a Team Manager Handbook for internal club use to guide others through the many responsibilities required of team managers.

These examples only begin to scratch the surface of what Shelley Gillwald does for the club and youth soccer.
