Kirk Hoecherl Award
ARNOLD WILCOX

Wilcox began his career in soccer like most of us-his kids wanted to play so he began as a coach and spent the next twenty-seven years involved in various positions. Wilcox started in the Granite Youth Soccer League with his boys and when the boys went to play competition, he went along with them. He coached them for eight years. Soccer seemed to be a family affair with the Wilcox family as both sons and daughters played, although Wilcox only coached his boys' teams. One of his son's who played for the Firebirds is now the soccer coach at Tooele High School.

In addition to coaching, Wilcox spread his wings and worked in some of the administrative positions to fill a need that wasn't being filled. He was President of League 7 for seven years, became Vice President of the District and went on to serve as the District 1 Chairperson for many years representing his District at the State Board level. During a lot of these years, Wilcox not only fulfilled his duties as coach and administrator but also marked fields, which is a time-consuming job.

Although Wilcox chose to retire from his District Chairperson position, he continues to serve the organization as a member of the Disciplinary Committee.

Wilcox has also been involved in the scouting program for at least 35 years and currently interviews boys for their Eagle Scout award. Being in the Reserves for many years gave him an opportunity to travel to many exotic places such as Turkey and other areas. He also serves on the Stake High Council in his Church.

We congratulate Wilcox on receiving this honor and know that he will always remember his time in soccer and all of the many friends he has made over the years.
