July 25, 2005 Region IV ODP Camp Update #4
The fourth week of Region IV's ODP camp has concluded for Utah's '89 boys and the '88 and '92 girls. The respective ODP camps are held at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon for the boys and the girl's camp is held at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. The '89 boys were matched against Cal North, Arizona, Colorado, Washington and Cal South. The '89 boys' week was highlighted by an unprecedented run against California beating Cal North 1-0 and capping the week with a 1-1 draw with Cal South. Regardless of the great results throughout the week, Utah only had two players selected to the Region IV ODP Pool: Marco Angelo and Garrett Losee. The '88 girls found themselves matched against Colorado, Idaho, Hawaii and Oregon. The '88's posted three sound victories with their only blemish falling to Colorado 2-1 on the first day. Despite finishing 3-1 on the week and having outstanding player performes, such as, Erin Dalley scoring seven out of her team's eight goals, Utah did not have any players selected to the Region IV ODP Pool. The '92 girl's camp featured all players from each State ODP Team being "scrambled" on to different teams throughout the week. The '92 camp was purely a developmental camp helping to prepare the players for next year's arduous ODP selection process. It is possible that Region IV named a "quite" Pool for the '92 age group, and if so, those players will be recognized in the final ODP article next week. "Utah's ODP continues to garner tremendous praise by everyone in Region IV, and now that we're consistently getting great results, Utah should begin to see an upward swing with more players being selected to the Region IV Pools in the future," said State Technical Director Greg Maas. Maas added that despite few selections to the Region IV Pool's this week, Utah will surpass last year's record of players selected to the Region IV Pools. The '88 boys are Utah's final ODP age group this summer. The '88 boys have started camp on a tear, posting 1-0 victories over both Washington and Cal North in their first two games of the week - we wish them continued success in their play! Congratulations and thanks to all of the players, coaches and administrative staff for a job well done! |
