State Technical Director, Greg Maas, announced "Congratulations are in order for the Utah State Cup Champion players, coaches, and administrative staff. They did a phenomenal job representing Utah soccer at the Regional Tournament!" In fact, out of the fourteen state associations who came to compete, Utah teams had the fourth best showing in the semi-finals behind only Cal South, Cal North, and Colorado. "Many regard Cal South as the pinnacle of soccer in Region IV, and Utah is quickly closing the gap," reports Maas. The following six UYSA teams competed in the semi-finals: U-19 Girls Inter FC, U-17 Girls Avalanche, U-16 Girls Avalanche, U-12 Girls Advantage, U-13 Girls Sparta, and U-14 Boys Inter FC. The U-19 Girls Inter FC team went on to the finals, but lost to the Colorado Rush, 1-0. Leisa Vineyard, President of UYSA said, "I was honored to be represented by such talent from our state, and I look forward to an even more impressive tournament next year!" Rich Manning, head women's soccer coach of the University of Utah, was happy to report, "Utah was the talk of the tournament amongst college coaches." No matter how you look at it, the Region IV teams competing in next year's tournament will be looking out for Utah! Congratulations to all who participated in the Regional Tournament!
