Job Description:
Title:Director of Coaching
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10 years experience in coaching and administration and a working knowledge of youth soccer players, clubs and organizations.
- USSF A or B License and the USSF National Youth License.
- Experience in the recruitment, training, supervision, and retention of a competitive coaching staff at all levels of youth soccer.
- Experience in the development and implementation of year-round soccer programs including summer camps, clinics and seasonal play.
- Experience in promoting club players to high school and college coaches.
- Coaching experience in the Olympic Development Program (ODP) and/or State Select programs.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Morally and ethically sound and willing to submit to a criminal background check.
- Good time management skills.
- Responsible and committed.
- Willing to pursue personal soccer-related goals.
- Organizational ability: i.e., able to communicate with league and State soccer officials, make board presentations, etc.
Salary: Based on experience.
The Director of Coaching (DOC) is employed by the club Executive Board, and reports specifically to the Board President or his/her designee.
Duties of the Director of Coaching are to include, but not limited to, the following:
1. Responsible for the education of the coaches and players within USA.
a. Publish and periodically update a written curriculum of soccer skill development and appropriate techniques to teach these skills. The curriculum will define age specific skill development for all players. The curriculum will designate what skill proficiencies should be accomplished by coaches and players during each playing season.
b. Provide monthly training sessions for the USA coaching staff. The objective of these coaching training sessions will be to instruct the coaches in age appropriate coaching methods. A minimum of 2 on-field coaches training sessions per season are to be held. Based on financial approval by the Executive Board, the DOC may employ additional coach training experts to lead or assist with these training sessions.
c. Provide periodic training sessions for the USA players. The objective of these player training sessions will be to emphasize the skill proficiencies that are outlined in the club's curriculum. A minimum of 4 club wide player training sessions per season are to be held. These sessions are to be age specific as deemed appropriate by the DOC. Each player in the club must have the opportunity to attend a minimum of 2 of the sessions per season. Based on financial approval by the Executive Board, the DOC may employ additional coach training experts to lead or assist with these training sessions.
d. Develop and attend additional training sessions for teams entered in the State Cup competition or traveling to out-of-state tournaments.
e. Work closely with the Recreation programs to promote and enhance the development of recreation coaches/players to a competitive level.
f. Post through channels of club communication, a list of available times when the DOC can work with individual coaches and teams on specific training issues. All individual team training will be conducted only upon the request of the individual coaches. If scheduling conflicts preclude expeditious response to specific training requests, the DOC will coordinate with the Board to obtain another qualified club coach or trainer to meet the needs of the individual teams.
g. Develop a format for player evaluations that will be implemented for each team.
h. Annually evaluate the progress of teams in achieving the club curriculum goals.
i. Conduct game or practice assessments of every club team at least once a season. Within one week of each assessment, the DOC will provide written comments on each session to the coach and Executive Board. The comments will be forwarded to the coach of the given team.
j. Provide goalkeeper training for the club. Based upon financial approval by the Executive Board, the DOC may employ and additional coach/s to lead or assist with these training sessions.
k. Shall solicit, interview, and recommend coaches. Final approval of the coaches and trainers is the responsibility of the club's Executive Board. Shall establish criteria, subject to approval by the Club's Board of Directors, for the selection of the coaches and trainers.
l. Shall manage yearly tryouts and player assignments. Based on financial approval of the Executive Board, the DOC may employ additional coach training experts to lead or assist with these tryout sessions.
2. Represent the USA Club on any District or State coaching committees.
3. Make monthly reports to the club's Board of Directors at the club's regularly scheduled meetings.
4. Educate parents on the club's policies and philosophies on youth development and age appropriate activities through orientations, seminars or written material. Develop and implement a Code of Conduct for players and parents to follow.
5. Maintain communication and cooperation with Utah Youth Soccer Association's state office and the State Director of Coaching.
6. In conjunction with the Tournament Director, direct and promote the annual Tournaments. The recruitment of teams outside the state will be a priority.
7. Seek corporate sponsorships and endorsement opportunities for the Club and to represent the Club and its programs to potential sponsors.
Conflict of Interest: No outside soccer related positions or activities are permitted unless approved by the club's Executive Board. A request must be made to the Executive Board in writing in outlining the new the position and any potential conflicts. Failure to do so may result in immediate dismissal.
