2006 US Youth Soccer National Championships The 2006 US Youth Soccer National Championships Highlight Show presented by adidas will air on Fox Soccer Channel this Friday, August 11, at 8:00 PM ET. The two-hour show will consist of game highlights from the recently completed national championships, feature stories and interviews. The self-produced program will highlight the 84 games played at the 2006 US Youth Soccer National Championships where the nation’s top youth teams played for their respective national championship in one of six age groups, Under-14 through Under-19, for boys and girls. In addition to the action on the field, the program will highlight various aspects of the event and its participants. “We are very excited to have the national championships back on television where millions of players, coaches, parents and soccer fans can relive the great week of play,” said Larry Monaco, president of US Youth Soccer. “For the more than 10,000 teams that started the journey in the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series, through our state associations, this program will highlight the achievement of the nation’s top youth players and what can be achieved when people come together for a common goal.” Fox Soccer Channel and the US Youth Soccer, the country’s largest youth sports organization, entered into a sweeping partnership to create programming, marketing and grassroots community initiatives to provide America’s rapidly growing youth soccer community with unprecedented access to their sport this May. Through the agreement, Fox Soccer Channel became the official television partner for US Youth Soccer, a nationwide body with close to one million volunteers, administrators and dedicated coaches; as well as more than 3 million youth players between the ages of five and 19. US Youth Soccer represents the single largest member of the U.S. Soccer Federation, the governing body for soccer in the United States. In May, The US Youth Soccer Show, a monthly half-hour US Youth Soccer magazine program, aired its first of six programs. “The response to The US Youth Soccer Show has been outstanding and we look forward to great remarks on the highlight show,” said Jim Cosgrove, executive director for US Youth Soccer. “The Show continues to receive great feedback and story ideas from across the country. It (The Show) is meeting its design and creating yet another platform to promote the numerous benefits of US Youth Soccer. The highlight show will provide aspiration for those looking to play at the highest level and recognition to those who have achieved that level of play.” The 2006 US Youth Soccer National Championships caps a yearlong series of events beginning at the state level of play. The US Youth Soccer National Championship Series is the country’s most prestigious national youth soccer tournament, providing over 185,000 players on more than 10,000 teams from US Youth Soccer’s 55 state associations the opportunity to showcase their soccer skills against the best competition in the nation while emphasizing teamwork, discipline and fair play. 2006 marks the 30th anniversary of the under-16 boys D.J. Niotis Cup and 15th Anniversary of the under-17 girls Laura Moynihan Cup. The James P. McGuire Cup is the oldest trophy in youth sport dating back to 1935 with the inaugural youth championships. The under-19 boys age group as the National Champion will hoist the McGuire Cup. This is the 71st anniversary of the storied cup.
