Two Utah Teams Advance to Semifinals at Far West Regional Championships
Celtic Storm Awarded Fair Play Award

Semi-final matches were played today at the Far West Regional Championships in Boise, Idaho. Utah's Under 18 Girls Avalanche Black and Under 19 Girls Celtic Storm won their matches and will advance to the Semi-final round to be played on Saturday, June 24.

This is the 5th year straight year Avalanche Black 88 has participated as the Utah State Champion at the Far West Regional Championships. During the preliminary games of the tournament they beat Hawaii-HSC Bulls 2-1, Colorado-CSA Copa 4-1, and California South-San Diego Surf 2-0. In the Quarter-final match they played the Spirits, the wild card team from California North and beat them 2-1. Avalanche will play Real Co National, the wild card team from Colorado on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Avalanche Black is coached by Joanna Barney.

Coach Robyn Bretzing's Celtic Storm team is attending their 6th straight Regional Tournament this year representing Utah as State Champion. Matches won so far during the tournament have been with AZ-Wild Card-Cisco 1-0, UT-Wild Card-Avalanche 4-0, NM-RVFC Elite 2-1, and AZ-Sereno 4-0. Storm will meet Colorado Rush Nike in a semi-final match at 9:00 a.m.

Utah is proud to announce that Celtic Storm has been awarded the 2006 Far West Regional Fair Play Award in the U19 girls age bracket. Congratulations to the team, coaches, and parents for their excellent play and conduct on and off the field.

We wish Avalanche and Celtic Storm good luck in their games and hope for a couple more wins.
