Fair Play and Outstanding Officiating Makes Utah Proud

The Utah Youth Soccer Association is proud to announce the following recognitions given to UYSA referees and players at the recent Far West Regional Tournament.

The Celtic Storm U-19 Girls team earned the "Fair Play" award after making it to the semi-finals of the tournament. Robyn Bretzing, coach of the Celtic Storm, was proud of her team, "We have a quote for each season and this year's was 'Exceed expectations' because we knew we'd only have twelve players, would have to play injured, etc. And I think we did that." Bretzing continued, "These girls are great examples on and off the field, and their high standards show in their game."

James Baggaley was selected as the Referee Rookie of the Year and received the "Most Promising Young Referee" award. James is known in Utah for his solid officiating and great attitude, which served him well at the Regional Tournament.

Tyler Fawcett gave such a great officiating performance at the Regional Tournament that he was selected to referee at the National Tournament taking place in July in Des Moines, Iowa.

In addition to James and Tyler, several UYSA refs were chosen to referee in the FWR semi-final and final games, a great honor to Utah. UYSA would like to thank Norm Williamson, SYRA, for his great work preparing our referees for the tournament.

Congratulations to all, your performance has made Utah proud and we wish you the best of luck!
