Final 2006 Utah State Cup Games Scheduled for Monday, May 29th
Twenty teams will compete for the title of Utah State Cup Champion

Utah Youth Soccer State Championship (often referred to as State Cup) is held each year. Champions are crowned for boys and girls in age groups between Under 11 and Under 19. Six Champions were crowned last fall from 79 competing teams. Ten Champions will be decided on Monday (Girls Under 19 Championship match was played on Saturday, May 27) from 135 competing teams. Champions in the Under 12 through Under 19 age divisions earn the right to represent Utah at the Region IV competition held this year in Boise, Idaho from June 19 through June 25. In addition, Utah has the opportunity to send four wild card teams in the boys U17 and U18 division and the girls U16 and U19 Division.

Boys Under 12 - La Roca FC vs Sparta 94 Premier

La Roca, coached by Adolfo Ovalle, has not been scored on in State Cup. Their record so far in the tournament is 3-0-0 with 11 goals scored and 0 against. They finished their spring league play in the U12 Premier Division in 2nd place.

Coach Matthew Ellinger leads the Sparta 94 Premier team. Their record in State Cup is 2-0-1 with 10 goals scored and 3 goals against. Sparta finished in 1st place in the spring league U12 Premier Division.

The championship match for this division is at 10:30 a.m. on field R. Will Sparta end up keeping their 1st place edge over La Roca FC? This should be an exciting and close game to watch.

Boys Under 13 - Sparta 93 Premier vs USA Cracroft

Coach Patrick Rennie will bring his U13 team to the pitch on Monday ready to play. Sparta's record in State Cup is 4-0-1. This team played up in the U14 Premier Division during the spring league play and finished in the middle of the group. They are ready to prove that is where they belong.

USA is coached by Justin Cracroft. This team's record in state cup is also 4-0-1. USA played in the U13 Premier Division during the spring season. The USA club has not yet won a State Cup Championship - this could be their year to make their mark.

Will playing up a year during league competition give Sparta the advantage or will USA's desire to honor their club and put USA on top? Check this match out at 12:30 p.m. on field S.

Boys Under 14 - Inter FC Premier 92 vs La Roca

Inter FC Premier 92 is the defending champion of the 2005 Utah State Cup. They won all five of their matches with 15 goals scored and 5 against. During the spring league play they finished 2nd in the U14 Premier Division. Inter FC is coached by Matt Broadhead.

La Roca, coached by Danny Parkhurst finished ahead of Inter FC in the spring league play as the #1 team. They have an impressive reord so far in State Cup by winning all five games with shutouts and scoring 25 goals.

Both teams have bragging rights to defend. Field Q at 1:00 p.m will be the place to watch this match as these two teams battle for the right to #1.

Girls Under 12 - Sparta 94 Premier vs Avalanche 94 Premier

Sparta 94 Premier is coached by Ab Rees. During state cup play, they have won four games with 14 goals for and 3 goals against. They played in the U12 Premier Division this spring.

Avalanche 94 Premier, coached by Karen Chin, also played in the U12 Premier Division this spring. So far, in State Cup they have son 4 games by scoring 17 goals with three goals against.

This match may represent the battle of two clubs as it starts the day at 8:30 a.m. on field Q. The Utah Avalanche Club has six girls' teams competing in championship matches on Monday. Sparta United has two boys' teams and four girl's teams competing. At the end of the day, we will know which club will send the most teams to Regionals.

Girls Under 13 - Avalanche 93 Premier vs Blitzz FC

Avalanche 93 Premier is one of two teams coached in the finals by Coach Karen Chin. During State Cup play, so far this team scored big in three matches and had two close matches (1-0). In 5 matches they have scored and impressive 19 goals and only gave up 2 goals. They finished 2nd in the U13 Premier Division this spring.

John Johnson coaches the Blitzz FC team. This team is undefeated this spring. They won all of their U13 Premier Division matches and finished in 1st place. During State Cup play, their record is 3-0-1.

Blitzz FC has one more match to win and they will keep their undefeated status for the season. Their previous match against Avalanche 93 Premier was won by only one goal. You won't want to miss this match at 11:30 a.m. on field R.

Girls Under 14 - Sparta 92 Premier vs Avalanche 92 Premier

Coach Dennis Burrows is ready to defend there 2004 and 2005 State Cup titles with his Sparta 92 Premier team. This team knows how to score and defend! During State Cup, they scored 19 goals with only 1 goal scored against them. Sparta 92 finished 2nd in the U14 Premier Division during spring league play.

Avalanche 92 Premier, coached by Simon McFall, is the U14 Premier Division league champion this spring finishing ahead of Sparta 92 Premier. They won all five of their State Cup matches without giving up more than 1 goal in any game.

Field S at 11:00 a.m. will be the place to check out this match. Will Sparta earn their 3rd straight state cup title or will Avalanche step up and start a new streak of their own?

Girls Under 15 - Inter FC Girls 91 Premier vs Avalanche 91 Premier

Although Inter FC lost their first match during State Cup play, they fought their way into the finals. During the spring league Inter FC 91 competed in the U15 Division 1 and finished in 1st place. Under the guidance of coach MJ Tate, Inter won all of their league games, scoring an impressive 53 goals and giving up only 3.

Avalanche 91 Premier, coached by Jimmie Powell, were the 2003 Utah State Cup Champions in the Under 12 division. They have won all their State Cup matches this spring by scoring 13 goals and giving up only 1 goal. During the spring league, they played in the U15 Premier Division.

Inter FC is ready to prove they belong at the top of the U15 group. Will Inter FC pull it out, or will Avalanche 91 Premier regain their State Cup title? Check it out on field T at 10:00 a.m.

Girls Under 16 - Celtic Storm Premier JR vs Avalanche 90 Premier

The Celtic Storm Club has a reputation of winning. They have won nine State Cup Championships in 7 years with older teams. This may be the year for Coach Jennifer Rawlings to lead this team to its first State Cup championship. In five matches so far in state cup 2006, the Storm has won all matches by scoring 18 goals and only giving up 2 goals. During the spring league, they competed in the U16 Premier league.

Avalanche 90 Premier has won Utah State Cup twice in 2003 and 2004. They are ready to win the title back. Coach Simon McFall's team is on a roll-wining all four State Cup matches without giving up a goal and scoring an impressive 18 goals. This team played in the U16 Premier Division this spring and finished in 1st place.

Will Avalanche 90 Premier continue their shutout streak and win the championship? This will be a hard fought and competitive match on field T at 12:00 p.m.

Girls Under 17 - Sparta 89 Premier vs Utah Rush Nike

Sparta 89 Premier, coached by Dennis Burrows, played up in the spring league in the U18 Premier Division and finished in 1st place. Their State Cup record is 4-0-0. They have scored 27 goals and only given up 1 goal.

Chuck Miller coaches Utah Rush Nike. Their State Cup record is 4-0-0 and they scored 16 goals with 1 goal against. Rush also plays up in the spring league in the U18 Premier Division. During the spring competition, they lost a close (3-2) game against Sparta 89 Premier.

Avalanche 89, the 5-time State Cup champion team in this division, is not playing this year's State Cup. Will Sparta 89 Premier continue to score big or will Utah Rush Nike be name the new State Cup Champion? This match will be played on field R at 9:00 a.m.

Girls Under 18 - Avalanche 88 Black vs Sparta 88 Premier

Avalanche 88 Black is the defending Utah State Cup Champion. They also won in 2004, 2003, and 2002. They have 3 shutouts so far in state cup play and have scored 14 goals. During the spring league, Avalanche played in the U18 Premier Division. Joanna Barney is the coach of this successful team.

John Gebhard is the coach of the Sparta 88 Premier team. They also play in the U18 Premier Division and finished two places ahead of Avalanche 88 Black. During State Cup, they lost their first match to Avalanche by a score of 0-1 but won their other two matches to earn their place in the championship match.

With bragging rights on the line, this will be a great match between two great teams. Watch it on field S at 8:30 a.m.

Girls Under 19 - Celtic Storm vs Avalanche

This championship match was played on Saturday, May 27. Five-time state champions, Celtic Storm coached by Robyn Bretzing maintained their title with a 7-6 win. Avalanche, coached by Kevin Vanderveur, has the opportunity to attend the Region IV Championships as a wild card team. These two veteran teams will have the chance to meet again during Regionals.
