Far West Regional League Is Born

FWRL US Youth Soccer and Region IV are proud to announce the birth of the Far West Regional League (FWRL). The FWRL is designed to provide supplemental competition for teams seeking to diversify their playing opportunities on a region-wide level. Clubs desiring new venues to showcase their talents will now gather for highly competitive games on a regular basis, and the winner of the Far West Regional League(s) will earn the Wild Card birth's to the Far West Regional Championships.

Greg Maas, UYSA State Technical Director, is also one of only three Directors of Coaching serving on the committee for the FWRL. "The FWRL will be another great resource lending to the continued growth and development of players and teams in both Utah and Region IV," says Maas, "I am honored to represent UYSA and Region IV on this monumental project, and am challenged to help make the FWRL the best it can possibly be."

Leisa Vineyard, UYSA President, is also enthusiastic about the FWRL. "The FWRL is an excellent opportunity for UYSA to showcase our talent, by competing against the best teams in Region IV on a regular basis. We look forward to representing Utah soccer well right from the start!"

US Youth Soccer Region IV Director Jolene Woodhave announced that David Lamb of Fullerton, California has accepted the position as Commissioner of the FWRL. "I'm thrilled and very excited to be appointed to this position," said David, "I am looking forward to working with the State Presidents and State Directors of Coaching in starting this new league and making it the best in the U.S. where all will want to play."

  • Seasons: Fall (Aug 15 - Nov 15) and Spring (February 15 - June 10)
  • Ten (10) age groups: Boys and Girls U14, 15, 16, 17, & 18
  • Each age group and Season to receive Wild Card into the USYS National Championship Series Region IV Far West Regionals for a total of two (2) wild cards per age group. (1 Fall 1 Spring)
  • Two Divisions: Premier and 1st Division
    Divisions may have sub divisions depending on number of teams entering.
  • Relegation from Premier to 1st Division
  • Promotion from 1st Division to Premier
  • Schedules: League will work around your home State Leagues and State Cups.
  • Teams to set schedule in face to face meeting with opponent
  • Top four (4) teams in each States USYS National Championship Series State Cup have guarantee entry into league if team applies.
  • All teams wishing entry in to league must apply and receive State approval.
  • U14 - U16 Eighteen (18) player roster (up to seven (7) guest players from same club allowed on guest roster) total 25 players 18 maximum on game roster
  • U17 - U18 Twenty (22) player roster (up to three (3) guest players from same club allowed on guest roster) total 25 players 18 maximum on game roster
