“What an outstanding year for our Olympic Development Program (ODP) – simply remarkable,” noted State Technical Director Greg Maas. This past year, Coach Maas and ODP Administrator Judy Martin teamed up with an outstanding, dedicated, and committed group of coaches, team administrators, and volunteers for a very successful 2006-07 ODP campaign.

Coach Maas reports Utah ODP established two all-time records this year for players being selected to US Youth Soccer’s Region IV ODP Team Pools. “Remarkably, for the 6th straight year, ODP has surpassed the previous year’s record,” said Maas. ODP garnered 34 selections to this year’s Region IV ODP Team Pools, edging last year’s record of 32 – in retrospect, Utah had a mere 5 players representing Region IV ODP in 2001. In addition, the ’90 Boys ODP Team set an all-time, single-team record for Utah ODP with 9 players selected to represent Utah on the ’90 Boys Region IV ODP Team Pool.

Maas quickly credits the hard work and dedication of the age group coaches, players, and administrators; and importantly, the commitment to player development and support for ODP by our coaches and players around the state. “US Youth Soccer’s ODP is a vital program for player identification for US Soccer, and as long as our coaches and players around the state continue to support ODP, we will continue to see players identified from Utah and we will be poised for further success,” Maas said.

Final financial reconciliation is in the process of completion, yet Martin confidently reports that ODP will again make budget; and efforts to continue to find funding and scholarship opportunities for our players continues to improve. “Each year our goal is to build on the prior year’s scholarship foundation to provide an opportunity for every player to participate in this great program,” stated Martin. In addition, Martin provided special thanks and credit to each of the team’s administration for their commitment and expertise behind the scenes in providing first-class support for our entire program.
