Tough Comptition Eliminates Twelve Utah Teams at Regionals
Seven Utah Teams Head to Quarterfinals on Friday

The preliminary rounds are over at the Far West Regional Championships. Each team representing Utah played three games in three days in the hot desert sun of Las Vegas. UYSA congratulates all the teams who competed and expresses appreciation to the players, parents, and coaches for a their efforts.

Seven Utah teams have advanced to Quarter-final matches beginning early on Friday morning. Good luck to our Utah teams:

At 7:00 a.m. the U12 Boys Inter FC Premier will play the wild card team from Washington, Crossfire Premier. Inter FC finished 2nd in C Flight with 1 win, 1 loss, and 1 tie. Crossfire Premier is the 1st place team in A Flight with 2 wins and 1 tie.

Another 7:00 a.m. match is schedule between U14 Girls La Roca GA and NW Nationals from Washington. La Roca finish their preliminary matches in 2nd place in D Flight. They beat Heat FC Orange from Nevada and Emerald City FC from Washington. Their loss came in a close 1-2 match against Pride Predators from Colorado. NW Nationals won all three of their matches and finish 1st in A Flight.

The third 7:00 a.m. match is between U19 Girls Avalanche Premier and BCSC Premier 87/88 from Idaho. Avalanche finished 1st in Flight A with three wins against Nevada, Hawaii, and New Mexico. They scored 12 goals and gave up only 2. Idaho finish 2nd in Flight C.

The next match will begin at 9:00 a.m. between U12 Girls Avalanche Premier and Southside Ireland from Oregon. Utah beat teams from Nevada, Wyoming, and Alaska to finish in the Flight A #1 spot. They will face their toughest competition yet against Southside Ireland who tied in points in Flight C after beating Cal North and Cal South. Their loss was against Hawaii.

Also at 9:00 a.m. is a match between U15 Boys Arsenal and Santa Clara Sporting from Cal North. Arsenal represented Utah as a wild card team and finish 2nd in Flight B. During the preliminary matches they beat Utah's Impact Black and Wyoming. Their loss was against the Far West Regiona League champs, FC Barcelona 1-3. Santa Clara Sporting finished 1st in Flight C with 2 wins and 1 loss.

As the day heats up, so does the competition. At 11:00 a.m. two Utah teams will compete against each other to determine who advances to the semi-final match. Avalanche Premier will play the Utah wild card team, Celtic Storm. As Flight D winner, Avalanche beat Montana, New Mexico, and the Far West Regional League Champions--Slammers FC from Cal South. Celtic Storm finish 2nd in Flight A with a win over Oregon, a loss to Idaho, and a tie with Nevada.
