Ortiz Named Dixie State College’s Men’s Soccer Head Coach

Dixie State Dixie State College's newly added NCAA Div. II men's soccer program and the college's athletic director Dexter Irvin today announced Danny Ortiz as its new head men's soccer coach. Coach Ortiz will be formally introduced to the college's booster club today at the club's bi-monthly luncheon.

Most recently, Ortiz has coached in the Utah Youth Soccer Association (UYSA). During his 28 years of coaching he has led his teams to several state championships and most recently was named the UYSA coach the month. Along with his coaching duties at Dixie State he will serve as the Soccer Director for the Southern Utah Soccer Association.

Coach Ortiz said, "I am very excited and feel extremely honored to be named as the first head coach of the Dixie State College Men's Soccer Program." He continued, "We have both been very involved in soccer in Northern Utah, and it is with a great amount of enthusiasm that we anticipate working with the people in Southern Utah to develop soccer in this area."

Dixie State Athletic Director Dexter Irvin said, "I am very excited to have someone with the knowledge that Danny has of soccer and he will immediately make a difference at the college as well as to the people of Southern Utah."

A holder of the United States Soccer Federation National C and National Youth Licenses, this affords him the opportunity to educate coaches in our area. He served as the coaching director of the Utah District 4 and has been a member of the Olympic Development staff and the Utah state coaching instructional staff since 2002.

"Danny has an infectious enthusiasm for the sport, and we anticipate a valuable team member has been added to the DSC athletic "family", Irvin continued.
