Applications for Affiliation Sought From UYSA Clubs
Clubs are encouraged to submit applications for affiliation so that they
might be eligible to vote at the upcoming meeting of UYSA's State Council.
During its meeting on April 22nd, the Board of Directors will consider
applications for affiliation that are received by the State Office by 5:00
PM on Friday, April 18th. Clubs whose applications are then accepted by the
Board of Directors may become eligible to vote during the State Council
meeting on April 26, 2003.
During its Annual General Meeting in January 2003, UYSA's State Council
adopted bylaw 1:06:03, which provides for the recognition of clubs upon
submission to the Board of Directors of an application for affiliation.
The applicant club must demonstrate in its application that the club (1)
consists of five or more teams with a common name; (2) is governed by an
elected Board of Directors composed of volunteers; (3) possesses a
governing structure (constitution, bylaws, policies, and/or rules) that
satisfy the requirements and mandates of USSF, US Youth, and UYSA; and (4)
enjoys non-profit corporate status and tax-exempt status as recognized by
State of Utah and IRS, respectively. The application for affiliation must
also be signed by either a district chair, league president, or
league-at-large president. Clubs whose applications are accepted by the
Board of Directors and ratified by the State Council will then be
recognized as voting members of UYSA's State Council.
Applications for affiliation may be submitted by letter directed to the
Board of Directors. Clubs should attach any and all documents necessary
to demonstrate the club's satisfaction of the criteria listed above.
Applications should be mailed or delivered to the State Office at 4476
South Century Drive, Suite D, Salt Lake City, Utah 84123.
Representatives from prospective clubs are encouraged to contact the State
Office for assistance with this process. Clubs in need of governing
documents may contact the State Office at scott@utahyouthsoccer.net to request an example of club bylaws. In addition, clubs needing
assistance to obtain tax-exempt status are encouraged to contact UYSA
Treasurer Tom Borrowman at tomborr@juno.com.
