Millard County Supports Development of Soccer Program

On January 14, 2004, the Millard County Economic Development and Tourism Board voted to approve an appropriation that will allow the Utah Youth Soccer Association and its local affiliate, the Delta Storm, to launch coaching and referee education programs for the benefit of players, officials, and coaches in central Utah. The Millard County Board granted a request for funding that was introduced by Dan Piacitelli on behalf of the Delta Storm.

UYSA President Paul C. Burke attended the hearing in Fillmore and made a presentation to the Board. Burke encouraged the development of a partnership with the Utah Youth Soccer Association to build a soccer program in Millard County that will benefit local players and attract visitors to Central Utah. Burke and Piacitelli described how teams from across the state came to Delta last spring when the Storm's first team participated in the State Competition League.

"We are grateful for this support from Millard County," said Burke. "The mission of the Utah Youth Soccer Association is to provide soccer opportunities to children in every Utah community, and this decision by Millard County will enable us to make progress towards that goal in Central Utah." Burke also thanked Piacitelli and the Delta Storm program for promoting coaching education and for developing a competition program in the Delta area.
