UYSA AND UTAH SPIDERS ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP Free Admission to Spiders Games for UYSA Players
The Utah Youth Soccer Association and the Utah Spiders have formed a strategic partnership to promote women's soccer in the state of Utah. The alliance unites Utah's premier youth soccer organization and Utah's highest-level women's soccer team. Under the terms of the agreement, players from the Utah Youth Soccer Association will enjoy free admission to Utah Spiders games. Utah Youth Soccer's logo will also appear prominently on the Spiders' uniforms.
The Utah Spiders are the defending National Champions of the Women's Premier Soccer League. With the suspension of the WUSA, the WPSL has become the top women's soccer league in the United States. Many players form the U.S. Women's National Team are expected to make appearances to play against the Spiders in Utah.
"The Utah Spiders are excellent role models for our players," says Paul C. Burke, president of the Utah Youth Soccer Association. "We are delighted that the girls playing Utah Youth Soccer will have the opportunity to watch the Spiders play."
"The Utah Spiders showcase the top female players in the state," says Mark Drown, General Manager of the Utah Spiders. "We hope that some of the girls who come to watch the Spiders will someday play for the Spiders." More than 90% of the Spiders team is comprised of Utah-based players, most of whom grew up playing in the Utah Youth Soccer Association's State Competition League and Utah Youth's Olympic Development Program.
The Utah Spiders are owned and operated by a non-profit Utah corporation. The Utah Youth Soccer Association will appoint a representative to the Spiders' Board of Directors.
Burke and Drown also announced that the Utah Spiders will host their home matches at several venues around the state. "The Utah Spiders will truly become Utah's women's soccer team," says Drown. "We hope that Utah Youth Soccer players around the state will 'Get Caught Up with your Utah Spiders.'"
The Spiders' schedule for the 2004 season is expected to be released next week. The Spiders' home opener will be May 22nd at the University of Utah.
