ODP and JDA State Pools Announced
Record Numbers Attend Tryouts in 2003-2004

Technical Director Greg Maas and ODP Administrator Gail Ellison offered thanks to all of the parents, players, coaches, administrators and the slew of volunteers for their efforts during this year's tryouts. "We had 700 players attend tryouts this year and that is a direct reflection of the positive direction our program continues to head," Maas said.

Aside from the sheer numbers attending tryouts, other highlights included a scheduled visit by US Soccer National Staff Coaches Mike Haas and Greg Ryan. "We were very impressed with standard of play on the field and the organization behind the scenes here in Utah," Haas noted. Both Mike and Greg attended the Salt Lake City tryouts and spent the day working with staff and, of course, helping to identify players.

Player selections were determined by individual technical, tactical, physical and psychological abilities; and final selections for this year's state pools were exceptionally difficult. "I would like to congratulate and thank each player who attended tryouts; and am confident that every player found the process to be challenging and rewarding," Maas noted. Maas also praised the efforts of his coaching staff for their thoroughness and commitment to excellence in selecting this year's state pools.
