Utah's Jammie McClead Selected as a Recipient of Coaching Education Scholarship
Women's National Team Head Coach and Nike Announce Winners of $1,000 Scholarship

U.S. Women's National Team Head Coach April Heinrichs and Nike have announced the five recipients of the $1,000 semi-annual April Heinrichs/Nike Coaching Education Scholarships. Winners are chosen from a wide range of outstanding candidates from across the country from every level of the sport, from youth clubs to Division I NCAA teams.

Scholarship winners for Fall 2004 are Jammi McClead (Utah), Kim Wyant (NY), Bernard Ryce (Ga.), Brock Thompson (ND) and Daniella Fagan (Penn.). Each coach will receive $1,000 to attend a U.S. Soccer National Coaching School for National A, B and C Licenses.

Jammie McClead, of Logan, Utah, is currently the Director of Coaching for the U-15 girls' state-level club, Extreme FC. She puts on camps and clinics with college coaches and organizes club training sessions. McClead has also assisted with coach and player development in several AYSO U-8 through U-12 programs while playing at a Tennessee college.

"It is exciting to see the number of coaches dedicated to their own education and the development of their players," said Heinrichs, who coached the U.S. Women to a Gold Medal this summer at the Olympics. "The number of quality applications received for this wonderful coaching opportunity continues to impress and challenge the award selection committee. The growth and development of young female athletes depends on proper coaching at all levels and this award demonstrates how dedicated Nike and U.S. Soccer are to that process."

To be eligible, candidates must coach a women's and/or girls' team at the recreational, club, high school, Olympic Development Program (district, state or regions) or college level. All NAIA, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III Head and Assistant Coaches and NCAA Division I Assistant Coaches are eligible. NCAA Division I Head Coaches are not eligible for the scholarship.

April Heinrichs/Nike Coaching Education Scholarships were created in 2000 to honor coaches who have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to their soccer community. Five scholarships are offered in the Spring and Fall of each year.

Spring scholarships will be awarded on April 15, 2005. The deadline for submitting applications is April 1, 2005. Scholarship hopefuls need to apply only once, as all applications are held for the next award selections. Only those applicants who wish to update their information need to reapply. Awards are restricted to candidates applying for A, B and C USSF coaching licenses.

Information on how to apply will be available on www.ussoccer.com closer to the deadline date. For more information contact State Technical Director, Greg Maas at uysatd@aol.com by calling (801) 268-3365.
