Ubuntu – I can’t be all that I can be unless you are all that you can be.

Current Team: Blue Knights 06 and 07 Boys

Coaching Experience: I have coached since 1994.  I started working with my own kids in recreation soccer and moved up with them into the UYSA programs.  I love coaching and working with young players and so once my own kids were finished with youth soccer I decided to stay involved and love pretty much every minute of it.

Playing Experience: I started playing in the late 70s (wow that really sounds like a long time ago) when my dad stepped up to coach a game he knew very little about.  I have always been grateful for that.  I have played in high school here in SLC and for various club teams and pick up groups from youth to adult in Utah, California, Arizona and Japan.  I still play 2 or 3 times a week and love to play whenever possible.

Favorite Soccer Teams:  Liverpool and RSL

Favorite Soccer Player: Steven Gerrard

Most Memorable Soccer Experience(s):  There are many.  Scoring goals, winning games, tournaments and championships as a player and coach are awesome, but most of my favorite memories are from coaching.  Seeing a player look up at me when something I taught them to do and that they worked hard on, was successful.  Watching it all just “work” on the field.  Having past players come up and say hi and give me a hug.  Seeing past players with kids that are still active in the game.  Seeing players reach their potential and gain confidence while doing so.  And seeing players be successful in life by using some of the things they learned in soccer are all valuable to me.

Coaching Philosophy: I am well aware that many youth players drop out of organized sports at young ages and  2 of the main reasons here are because they are not having fun and they are not learning anything.  In my opinion the responsibility for both of these usually lies squarely upon the coaches shoulders.  So I do all I can to make the game fun in both games and practices.  And I also know that I have a responsibility to do all I can to have the tools and knowledge necessary in order to always have ways and things to teach the players I work with.  I can never sit back and feel that I know enough.  The kids deserve better. I have a goal that every player I work with gains a passion for the game and does not walk away from my time with them thinking that they are handicapped from playing at the level that they want because I did not teach them key skills and aspects of the game that they need.

Favorite Movie:  7 Samurai

Favorite Food: Cinnamon Knots from Granite Bakery.

Special Interests: My family who have made many sacrifices for me to be able to follow this passion.
