Utah Youth Soccer Coach of the Month November 2006
Coach: Chris Sonntag Current Team: Impact Black Boys U-18 Team, and the Olympus High School Boys Varsity Team. Coaching Experience: USSF National 'C' License. 13 years coaching experience with Girls and Boys competition teams. Last 6 years with Impact Black, UYSA State Cup Champions in 2003, and again this year with the U-18's. Best coaching experience - working with and being trained by my Assistant Coach, Sidney Wade for all 13 years! Playing Experience: Youth recreation and competition teams, Olympus High School, and 4 years on Nordica Men's Team. Favorite Soccer Teams: Definitely, my U-18 Boys this year - we started when they were U-12, and I'm so excited for them that they were able to finish their youth soccer careers as State Cup Champions. Favorite Soccer Players: Zinedine Zidane Most Memorable Soccer Experiences: This year's team coming together and refusing to quit when faced with being short handed, a broken leg in semi's, and playing through other injuries. They are State Cup Champions, finishing on top, and continued a streak of making the semi-final game in every year since they began 6 years ago. Coaching Philosophy: Understand that all players are individuals. You must handle the emotion, varied skill levels, personalities and parents individually to be successful. Always remembering that although we all work for victories, the real success is when you teach integrity, with other players, coaches and themselves. To help each player understand that by honoring commitments, they define who they are; and that they leave your program better players, but much more importantly, better people. Favorite Movie: No real favorite, I'm easily entertained. Favorite Book: Lonesome Dove Favorite Food: Most types of Pasta Special Interests: Waterskiing and riding motorcycles in Southern Utah. Chris Says: "Train your players without ego, showing your true love for the game and for them. Let them experience all the good that comes through dedication, commitment and hard work, but make sure that you stay true to them and do what you say. Be dependable and a rock for your teams - It is so important!" |
