Utah Youth Soccer Coach of the Month February 2008
Coach: Sly Yeates Current Team: Valencia CF 91 & 92 Girls, Valencia CF 92 Boys Coaching Experience: USSF 'C' License - Club, High School, ODP Playing Experience: High School, Utah State University Favorite Soccer Teams: US National Teams, Holland National Team, Portugal National Team Favorite Soccer Player: Ruud Van Nistelrooy Most Memorable Soccer Experience(s): 1) Accumulating a red card because one of my High School players was wearing pre-wrap on her wrist. 2) Watching my cousin Riley score the equalizing goal (header off a corner) with only seconds remaining in the state cup final, later winning the game in overtime. 3) On a referee note: being in the center of Santa Clara vs. San Jose State, and the University of Portland vs. BYU in the NCAA Tournament. Coaching Philosophy: Player development transcends win-loss stats. A player can never be technical enough. I also believe in developing a high work rate and executing it at practices and games, teaching players to communicate effectively, and instilling discipline in all aspects of the game and individual training habits. Favorite Movie: Top 5 = Better Off Dead, Garden State, Underworld, Mulan, and Willow. Favorite Book: To Kill A Mockingbird Favorite Food: Thai, and anything with noodles Special Interests: Spending time with my family & friends. NISOA National Referee.
