June 22, 2009 Utah Youth Soccer Announces $9 Recreational Fee
In a monumental decision, the Utah Youth Soccer Association (UYSA) Board of Directors voted unanimously to lower the $11 recreational registration fee two dollars to an unprecedented $9 dollar per player. The new registration fee will go into effect immediately.
One of the few criticisms that the association has faced is the cost of recreational registration fees. "With the Board of Director decision last week, I am confident that UYSA can now proclaim that it clearly has the best product for your buck." -Andrew R. Hiatt UYSA Interim Executive Director
The decision to lower the fee stems greatly from the recent cut in operating costs, namely the decrease in the cost of player medical insurance and the recent addition to online registration which has cut the cost of paper and supplies. Another reason derives from the recent economical slowdown. "UYSA is aware that many of our members and prospective members are facing difficult financial situations and we are doing our best to assure that our product is not only quality but affordable." -Andrew R. Hiatt UYSA Interim Executive Director More...

June 17, 2009 CLIF KID Tip of the Month: The Skinny on Fat
Not all fats are alike. According to the Harvard School of Public Health, certain fats can lower the risk of heart disease and other ailments. It all comes down to knowing which fats to eat more of and which to watch out for.
Tip- Monounsaturated or polyunsaturated fats provide fat-soluble vitamins and essential fatty acids needed for growth and development. They also help keep the heart healthy. These fats can be found in foods such as almonds, olives, avocados, sesame sees and hazelnuts.
What to watch out for trans fat, which increase risk of certain diseases. They are found in partially hydrogenated oils, which are used in many deep fried snacks and fast foods.
How much? Kids ages 3 and older should get roughly 30% of their daily calories from healthy fats.
