US Youth Soccer Region IV Fall Planning Workshop Tina Patterson Saturday morning the registrars met as a committee. The first thing that we discussed was the fee to enter the National Cup tournament. These fees ranged from $200.00 (Nevada) to $600.00 (Alaska & Idaho). Then discussed the cost of travel papers. The committee thinks that Utah is rich because we don't charge for travel papers. There was a lot of interest in "on line travel papers". There is only one other state that has travel papers on line. I found out that the US Club sponsors the Nomad Tournament. There was concern about the insurance of our players that participate in this tournament. Will they be covered?? We know that we can't prevent them from going. They have the right to attend any tournament that they want to. We talked about the proper credentials for coaches at Regionals. There was a team at Regionals that had to forfeit a game because the wrong coach was on the sidelines. We were reminded that only four coaches are allowed on the sidelines at the Regional Tournament. We discussed the Regional Registrar's Manual. We noticed that all tournaments require: passes, proof of age document, medical release (or copy if registration form if medical release is included) and an official roster. It is mandatory that coaches know the tournament rules before going to any tournament. We were given assignments to have ready at the next meeting in Boston. I am to help with forms with the registrar from New Mexico. I was given an assignment from our Vice President, Scott Maxfield, to get the definition of " select teams". This is the definition that was found in the Region Four Registrar Manual: Select Team: The official select (all Star) team of USYSA or any of its regions, affiliated National State Associations or any district or geographical sub-division thereof, or any league. The entire committee agreed with this definition. In the afternoon we joined the National Cup representatives for a presentation of a program that will make National Cup and any other tournament easier to run. We were all asked to bring our laptop computer. However there was a glitch in the program and we were not able to load it. What this program will do for National Cup is to take the information from Logical Solutions and put it in the Blue roster format. This will allow the blue roster to be generated easier. This program will cost $450.00. Teresa got a copy of the program. She thinks that she may have an "E" drive. That is what the program needed to be loaded. They will fix the problem and send us a sample to try. We were told that Snickers is no longer the sponsor of the National Cup. At the wrap up meeting with Bruce Cuppett, he suggested that we use a different color of pass for duel rostered players (the secondary team) He would also like to see an ID card separate from their coaching pass. This card would be attached to a lanyard to be worn at all games. This would identify the coach to the referees and the parents. We could add a sticker to show that they had passed the background check. I will be working with Jodene Smith on this. It was a full day of meetings. The region activity was outstanding. I really enjoyed it. Thank you for allowing me to represent Utah at this Workshop.
