Avalanche 0 vs Mustang Blast 3
Team Report: We played a great game against a very fast and physical team. Our defense played an excellent 2nd half, holding Blast scoreless until the very end of the game. Tremendous effort was made by our newfound sweeper Heather Pond. Our usually high-powered offense was limited to only a few shots. Megan Ohi and Cali Clark had two of our best scoring chances. Notable Players: Noelle Scott, M&M Maldonado, Leftie Lowery, and Cali Clark.
Avalanche 0 vs San Diego Surf 1
At the start the game Surf had most of the possession. Avalanche survived without giving up an early goal and gradually gained more confidence. Heather Pond did a good job defending and organizing the team defensively. Fifteen minutes into the game Surf scored, only to have it called back for off side. Avalanche goalkeeper, Hailee DeYoung made a good save against a wide-open Surf player at point-blank range. Hailee did a good job coming off her line to pick up balls and crosses throughout the game. The half ended 0-0. Avalanche played very aggressive and challenged hard for the ball.
The 2nd half was played mainly in the middle third with both teams struggling to create good scoring chances. With five minutes left Surf scored to go ahead 1-0. Avalanche put a lot of pressure on the Surf keeper the rest of the game but couldn't tie it up.
Team Report: The Surf team is one of the best in the Western Region and we proved in this game that we also belong in this category. The only goal of the game cam late in the 2nd half and was unstopable. Our goalie, Hailee DeYoung, had played a perfect game. She made many excellent saves and had several collisions with the opponents. We had tough play from all over the field. Megan Maldanado and Nicole Urry frustratered every attempt by the surf players. Megan Ohi had several crosses but we were unable to finish. Noelle Scott again played tremendous soccer, often sparking amazing offensive chances. Notable Players: Noelle Scott, Nicole Urry, M&M Maldanado, Hailee DeYoung, and Mac Boogard.
