Sparta’s U16 and U17 teams, both coached by Marco de Ruiter, participated in Surf College Cup over Thanksgiving Weekend. Both teams reached the finals where the U16’s lost on a “golden goal” with 1 minute to play to Monarcas Academy Aztec from Northern California. They had an opportunity in the first half of extra time to win when they hit the post nearly bouncing in, unfortunately things did not go their way.
In order to make it to the final the U16’s beat FC Los Angeles 1-0, Pateadores Academy 3-1 & South San Jose Indios 3-0 in pool play. They then played South Bay Gunners in the semifinals where they were victorious 2-0.
Sparta’s U17’s beat Marin FC, also from Northern California, 2-1 to claim the Surf College Cup Championship.
Our U17’s made it to the final in a much more difficult way. They beat Atletico Santa Rosa 2-0 & Dallas Texans 2-0 but lost 1-0 to RSF Attack Green all in pool play. Fortunately they received the wild card to advance to the semifinals where they beat Futeca Camp 1-0 and eventually won the championship.
Sparta is very proud of their accomplishments and want to congratulate them on a job well done.
