MORGAN HILL, Calif. (June 13, 2014) – The fields narrowed down for the Under-13 through Under-17 Boys and Girls teams participating in the 2014 US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup in Morgan Hill, Calif. After three days of play, quarterfinal and semifinal matches are set, and teams get one step closer to a regional title and a berth to the 2014 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup, July 10-13 in Greenville, S.C.
The US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup is designed for teams seeking additional challenges to play for a national title against teams of similar abilities. The cup provides a progressive, competitive experience to teams that might not otherwise get the opportunity to participate in a series of unique experiences highlighting competition, camaraderie and community from the state to regional to national levels of US Youth Soccer.
Teams to Watch:
Under-13 Girls: Eagles White (CA-S)
Eagles White defeated fellow Cal-South team Murrieta Surf 1-0 to get their third win in preliminary play. A goal by Elysia Laramie in the 50th minute and a strong backline helped the U-13 Eagles remain undefeated in the match and in pool play. The Eagles will next face CSC Tsunami (AK) in quarterfinals.
Under-14 Girls: West Coast FC United White (CA-S)
West Coast FC United White (CA-S) defeated Utah Storm Premier-Dean (UT) 4-0 to move on to quarterfinals. West Coast went undefeated in preliminary play, scored ten goals in three games, and didn’t allow a single goal to be scored against them. West Coast hopes to continue their streak as they face United White (CA-S) in tomorrow’s quarterfinals.
Under-15 Girls: Eastside FC G98 White (WA)
Three wins gives Eastside FC White (WA) a top spot in Under-15 Girls standings and a chance to move on to tomorrow’s quarterfinal match against Impulse from Cal-North. Eastside FC defeated BSC Valley 98G Tiempo (OR) in their final pool play match with a 4-0 result, which saw goals by Anne Maher, Lauren Harwood, Katherine Zue and Alysse Legault.
Under-16 Girls: Washington Timbers G97 Green (WA)
Washington Timbers G97 Green (WA) defeated Under-16 Girls team Celtic Hoops (CA-S) 3-0 in quarterfinal play. Washington took a 2-0 lead going into halftime after a pair of back-to-back goals by Amanda Shi in the 5th and 40th minutes. In the second half, Desiree Arocha found the back of the net in the 67th minute, giving Washington a 3-0 victory. The undefeated Timbers next face Lady Nomad from Nevada in semifinals.
Under-17 Girls: California Elite Soccer Club G96 (CA-S)
A 3-1 victory against Dragons Select (UT) allowed California Elite Soccer Club G96 (CA-S) to advance to quarterfinals. California Elite took a 1-0 lead at halftime with an early goal by Sigany Brice in the 6th minute. Erin Reynolds put California Elite up by two in the 41st minute, but Dragons Select held on when Madalyn Hansen shot one in in the 63rd minute. Jacqueline Mendez secured the victory for California Elite with a goal in the 75th minute. The undefeated California side will battle CISC Velocity 97G (AK) in quarterfinals.
Under-13 Boys: Fusion FC Traviesos (UT)
After going undefeated in preliminary play, under-13 Boys team Fusion FC Traviesos (UT) defeated Sporting White (CA-N) 4-3 in their quarterfinal matchup. A pair of goals by Fusion’s Ethan Bengtzen in the 16th and 21st minutes kicked off the match. Sporting leveled the score after goals by Dieumerci Muganza in the 53rd minute and Cesar Prado in the 62nd minute, but Ryan Jiba put Fusion back in the lead in the 66th minute. Bryce Fernandez gave Sporting the equalizer just a minute later, but Arturo Martin’s late game heroics in the 74th minute gave Fusion the victory. Fusion FC moves on and faces HG Eagles (CA-S) in semifinals.
Under-14 Boys: Oxnard Wave Soccer Club (CA-S)
Oxnard Wave Soccer Club (CA-S) got an impressive 5-0 victory against CISC Velocity 00B Blue (AK) in today’s Under-14 Boys quarterfinal match. Gerardo Carranza started off on fire, scoring three goals for Oxnard in the first 20 minutes of play. Oxnard Wave Soccer Club continued the momentum in the second half of the match, and got two additional goals by Ivan Lumbrano in the 60th minute and Igor Lumbrano in the 64th minute. Oxnard remains undefeated in all matches as they go into semifinals versus Players SC Elite from Nevada.
Under-15 Boys: Tacoma United B98 Chelsea (WA)
Tacoma United Chelsea from Washington finished preliminary play with a 3-0-0 record. Their final pool play game against Rogue Valley Timbers Red (OR) resulted in a 2-0 score with second half goals by Miguel Macias and Vicente Aquino. Tacoma United will go up against BNSC Inter (ID) in quarterfinals.
Under-16 Boys: L30 Crossfire FC (UT)
L30 Crossfire FC (UT) will go up against Merdian United (ID) for tomorrow’s Under-16 Boys quarterfinal match. Crossfire defeated Players 98 Elite (NV) 2-1 in their final pool play match with goals by Jaysten Flowers in the 22nd minute and by Carlos Rodriguez in the 47th minute.
Under-17 Boys: CYSASL Verona (CA-S)
CYSASL Verona (CA-S) racked up 11 goals and went undefeated in their first three pool play matches. Five of those goals were achieved today after a 5-0 win against Real Colorado Edge United (CO). Jason Samperio opened up the scoring early on with a goal in the 5th minute. Jorge Bedolla got a pair of goals in the 46th and 52nd minutes, and Manuel Castellanos added another in the 47th minute. Eulalio Abundez concluded the match with an 80th minute tally. CYSASL Verona (CA-S) faces Under-17 Boys team Ballistic (ID) in quarterfinals.
