TOSH Training Program Week 2

The second week of the TOSH training program was really good for all of the UYSA staff involved. Whereas the first week was an introductory session and then a treadmill day that gave us a taste of what to expect, this was the first real week of the program and it was exactly what we were looking for and needed.

On Tuesday, we did a plyometric and core workout. With the plyometrics, TOSH has a unique court area with several different layouts featuring lines, dots, and numbers. Each staff member was assigned a layout and then McKenzie put us through the workout. It contained things such as single leg jumping from number to number, doing “fast feet” in particular patterns, and more complex jumping.

After the plyometric activities on the court we moved to the track where McKenzie set up blocks, cones, and a ladder. The program members then had to move through the course in a variety of ways, once again featuring different jumps, and “fast feet” exercises. One of the great things about this section for the staff was that the section helped work on our coordination, something that was sorely needed. Once again, we all left feeling exhausted but accomplished.

Thursday was a whole different beast. Thursday like the week prior was a treadmill day. After doing the standard warm-up, one person would get onto the treadmill at different speeds and inclines depending on the workout McKenzie had designed for us individually based on our introductory week. While that person was running, the rest were doing core exercises off to the side.

This is one of the best aspects of the TOSH and Athletic Republic program. While many workouts and programs feature activities, there is the potential to have long periods of rest. With this program, you are constantly working and improving on your physical condition. With that being said McKenzie does a fantastic job of both pushing you to excel but also giving you the option to work at your own pace. After completing a run on the treadmill, she always asks if you want to go again. It is totally up to the individual and lets you have a say in what your body can handle. All in all it was a great week and we are looking forward to getting even more involved with the program and seeing what they have in store.
