Open Board Member Positions
Vice President Position
Kendra Halterman
Running for 2nd Vice President
Following my high school career, I transitioned seamlessly into the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) competing at a high level while contributing to the growth of the sport in our community. Concurrently, I also immersed myself in our local women’s adult league and have remained an active participant ever since.
My involvement for the last 14 years with the Utah Adult Soccer board, under the mentorship of Bill Bosgraaf, has been instrumental in shaping my understanding of the administrative side of the sport. Bill’s guidance has been invaluable, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn from him and contribute to the growth and development of soccer in our state.
Over the years, I have dedicated myself to various roles within the soccer community, from coaching and managing youth and adult teams to serving on boards and committees at both the state and national levels. My current positions, including WPSL Commissioner and Affiliate Board Director for the United States Adult Soccer Association, have provided me with a comprehensive perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing our sport.
One of my proudest accomplishments over the year was being heavily involved in the recent merger between youth and adult soccer, a monumental step forward for our community. As Vice President, I am committed to building upon this foundation to further bridge the gap between youth and adult soccer, foster growth in adult membership, secure sponsorships, improve access to fields, and enhance opportunities for referee and coaching development.
Specifically, I plan to focus on:
Growing Adult Membership: I will work tirelessly to expand adult participation in soccer, creating opportunities for players of all skill levels to engage with the sport.
Securing Sponsorships: I aim to attract sponsorships for adult soccer programs, injecting much-needed funds into our organization to support player development and facility maintenance.
Improving Field Access: I recognize the challenges of securing adequate field space for matches and training. I will advocate for increased access to fields, ensuring that every team has a place to play.
Enhancing Referee and Coaching Development: I believe that investing in referee and coaching education is essential for the growth of our sport. I will spearhead initiatives to provide comprehensive training opportunities for referees and coaches at all levels.
I am deeply passionate about the future of soccer in Utah and am committed to leveraging my experience, dedication, and vision to serve our membership to the best of my abilities. I humbly ask for your support and vote in the upcoming elections. Together, we can continue to elevate the beautiful game in our community.
Steven Parkinson
Running for 2nd Vice President
With all of the youth clubs around, I want to help build up and promote the adult program. I believe there are many young players that finish their “youth” career and don’t realise or know that there is an adult competitive league.
Having served for 23 years on the executive board of the Utah Soccer Association from 1993 to 2016, and being a Club/Team representative for the Cougars SC from 1990 to 2020 I have a better understanding of the Adult teams and its members and how to help them succeed.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Linked here is my bio of my current job and my soccer related experiences.
Region Positions
Region 2
Tim Wheelwright
Running for Region 2 Board Member
I am confident that my education, professional experience, service on the boards of other non-profit organizations, and soccer experience, which I will briefly summarize below, has prepared me to continue serving on the USF Board and to make a meaningful contribution to its important work.
Linked here is my relevant experience and resume.
Martin Jensen
Running for Region 2 Board Member
Martin has coached at Wasatch Soccer club for over 10 years and has served in many roles with the club including, coach, parent, Board Member, Executive Director and is currently serving as Director of Business Development leading the creation and construction of Wasatch SOccer Club’s own fields and indoor facility.
Renata Lawson
Running unopposed – Region 4 Board Member
the UYSA board.
I have been involved in this soccer community for over 20 years in various
capacities. I have my USSF “C” license and have coached for several different
clubs, Co-directed Academy, directed soccer camps, worked as a personal
trainer and am now the DOC for Copper Mountain Soccer. I believe that all
children should have the opportunity to play this great sport that instills values
and a work ethic that will follow them throughout their lives.
Having played soccer all my life and having four children who have all played
at one time or another, I have a special interest to see this organization
succeed. It is my hope to be able to serve the soccer community and help
create opportunities for us to improve on an already great league.
Steven Beckstrom
Region 6 Board Member
I have been heavily involved in Region 6 soccer for a number of years, serving on the SU-IRL Advisory Committee since 2018, where I help make alignment decisions and even helped draft a significant overhaul of UYSA Policy 6364 to permit teams meeting certain qualifications to play-up in older age groups. In addition to serving on the SU-IRL Advisory Committee, for a number of years I have also served on the UYSA Adjudication Committee and I currently hold the position of Chairperson over Protests and Appeals. Finally, since 2021, I have served on the SU-TOSH ODP staff, and I am presently the head coach of the 2010 Boys team who finished as finalists at the 2024 ODP West Region Championships.
I have accepted the nomination for the Region 6 Director position for several reasons. First, I envision using the position to continue my love for the game of soccer and advancing the game in the State of Utah. The future of soccer is bright in the State of Utah and it is critically important for UYSA to play a pivotal role in the advancement of the game. Second, I intend to promote the interests of all clubs participating in Region 6 soccer, whether in the form of recreational or competitive leagues. Third, and relatedly, I plan to continue the advancement of the SU-TOSH ODP Program as well as the placement and promotion of teams desiring to participate in the UYSA Premier League. Just like its population is booming, in my opinion, the numbers, talent, and skill of players participating in the SU-IRL is advancing at a rate that meets or exceeds the rest of the players in the State of Utah. The SU-TOSH ODP and promotion of teams from the SU-IRL to the USYA Premier League is critical to making further advancements in this regard. Lastly, I would like to assist Region 6 with making more fields available to players. It will be an incredible feat for Region 6 to soon be afforded the luxury of using the new Legacy Fields Soccer Complex at Shivwits but it is also important that we find and gain access to additional fields to keep up with the growing demand for soccer in Southern Utah. I intend to
keep up the great work of the current Region 6 Director, Kyle Paisley, in the advancement of fields in the Southern Utah area.
