SafeSport Certification

Education and awareness are the most critical components to creating safe and respectful sporting environments, free of abuse and harassment. UYSA is committed to ensuring all administrators and players have the proper training to protect all forms of abuse that can occur in sports.


Please reach out to your club’s administration or contact the UYSA office to be provided with the platform link.

SafeSport Act

On February 14, 2018, the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act was signed into law. It is aimed at protecting amateur athletes from sexual abuse.

What are the requirements for NGB’s and NGB-Affiliated?

SafeSport Policy Statement: Per the SafeSport Act under Title II, each Organization Member that is an “Applicable Entity” or otherwise has adult members (adult participants) who are in regular contact with amateur athletes who are minors, must maintain, as part of that risk management program, an athlete and participant safety program that includes the six components listed below.

  1. Prohibited Conduct Policy
  2. Appropriate Background Screening
  3. Education & Training
  4. Reporting
  5. Limiting One-on-One Interactions
  6. Enforcement

Coaches & Team Manager Responsibilities

  • All Coaches and Team Managers must take the  SafeSport training.  After completion of the training, a  master certificate is generated and must be uploaded to your US Soccer Connect administrator account
  • The required course that must be taken is the SafeSport Abuse Prevention 90-minute Core training.
    • SafeSport training runs on a four-year cycle. Only one training per year needs to be completed. At this time below is the SafeSport schedule:
      • Year One: SafeSport Trained Core Course (1.5-2 hrs)
      • Year Two: SafeSport Core Refresher 1 Course (15-20 mins)
      • Year Three: SafeSport Core Refresher 2 Course (15-20 mins)
      • Year Four: SafeSport Core Refresher 3 Course (15-20 mins)
      • Year Five: SafeSport Trained Core Course (cycle repeats)

Player & Parent Responsibilities

  • As required by federal law, players/athletes who are 18 years of age or older or will turn 18 during a current playing season, and play on a team with minor athletes (regular contact) are required to take the SafeSport Abuse Prevention 90-minute Core training to participate.
  • Certificate of completion may be uploaded to the player’s profile in Sports Connect (Affinity).

Organizational Member & Associate Member Responsibilities

Clubs are required to manage their member’s annual SafeSport completion. Compliance is required. Each Organizational Member must list a Risk Management Coordinator on their annual renewal application.
