Grassroots In Person License Courses 

Grassroots In Person Course (requirements)

Must attend 2 in person grassroots courses, can be 7v7 or 9v9 (does not matter what you coach) 11v11 is required by all coaches.

To become a coach for Utah Youth Soccer:

  • Coaches will need a U.S. Soccer Learning Center account (free) this is different then your Utah account (club/team)
  • Complete the Introduction to Grassroots, Free, 20 mins, Listed in available courses in menu of Learning Center, this course is required to register for any other courses in the Learning Center.
  • Must register for In Person Grassroots Courses – 2 are required to coach in Utah, 11v11 is required by all Coaches, 7v7 or 9v9 are alternated and it does not matter what age group is being coached, attend the course dates that work for you – MUST ATTEND THE SET of courses listed together. (see course links and dates below)
  • https://learning.ussoccer.com/ – U.S. Soccer has a module called Safe Soccer – Utah coaches are NOT required to do this, if you do, please DO NOT pay for the background check, we cannot use them. Utah pays for all coaches to get a background check in our registration system Sports Connect. If you do pay for anything with U.S. Soccer, Utah cannot reimburse you. The only thing in U.S. Soccer that you should pay for is the In Person Grassroots Courses, $65 each – $130 Total for the in person course set.

In Person Grassroots Courses Instructions:

  • PLEASE JOIN THE COURSE SET THAT WORKS FOR YOUR SCHEDULE –
  • DO NOT JOIN ALL WAITLISTS – ONLY THE SET THAT WORKS FOR YOU.
  • Click on the UNDERLINED links to join the wait list,
  • Each course is $65, for a Total of $130 for a grassroots license (required to coach in Utah Youth Soccer Gaming League)
  • U.S. Soccer will send an email with payment links within 48 hours (usually) please watch junk mail.
  • If the coach is only on ONE waitlist, you will NOT be invited to join.

If you are paid in the 2 required courses a grassroots pending can be added to your account, so you can coach while waiting for the course results, Please email jbreckenridge@uysa.org and state the dates of the grassroots courses you have paid for – I do not need a receipt, just your name and the course dates you have paid for.

April 30 and May 7, 2025 Wedensday – Sandy UT Courses are not full, coaches MUST join both wait lists, an email from US Soccer will be sent within 48 hours with payment link, one email for each course $65, Total of $130. 9v9 In Person Grassroots Apr 30, 6-10 PM; 11v11 In Person Grassroots May 7, 6-10 PM

May 18 (all day both courses) SUNDAY – Sandy UT Courses are not full, coaches MUST join both wait lists, an email from US Soccer will be sent within 48 hours with payment link, one email for each course $65, Total of $130. 7v7 In Person Grassroots May 18, 9AM-4PM; 11v11 In Person Grassroots May 18, 9AM-4PM (both courses will be completed in one day)

Utah Coaching License Waiver Information

* A waiver is not a U.S. Soccer coaching license, the required coaching course must be completed to receive a license.

**The US Soccer Learning Center does not work on an cell phone or tablet. Please use a computer to complete the registration process. No Online Grassroots courses are required by Utah Youth Soccer Association, no refunds can be given for online courses.

To receive a waiver the following steps must be completed:

  • Register with your club as a coach – MUST be completed before a waiver will be given – contact your club registrar
  • Complete the Introduction to Grassroots in U.S. Soccer’s Learning Center (FREE)
  • To pay your U.S. Soccer Grassroots License waiver fee $25, click HERE  (good for one season, Fall or Spring, not both)
  • Once payment is made – your coaching account in UYSA should be updated with 48 hours (weekdays only). Verify with your club registrar after 48 hours.

SOUTHERN UTAH COACHES –

NO WAIVERS WILL BE GIVEN – As we are still working to schedule enough in person grassroots courses in SU.

Instead of waivers all Southern Utah Coaches need to complete ONE Online Grassroots Coures to be eligible to coach for Fall Season.

Follow these steps:

  • Register with your club – contact the club registrar
  • Create an account in US Soccer’s Learning Center (free) – coaches must use the same EXACT name, birthdate, email and address that appears in the Utah coaching account, for the account to sync)
  • Complete the Introduction to Grassroots in U.S. Soccer’s Learning Center (FREE)
  • Complete ONE Online grassroots courses ($25) – must be 7v7, 9v9 or 11v11. Once the course is complete and you can see the certificate it should sync directly to your Utah Coaching Account – the registrar of your club can click a get updated from learning center button, please email your registrar to make sure you are appearing on the roster correctly.
  • By Fall of 2024 all coaches in Southern Utah will be required to attend and pass 2 in person grassroots courses to continue coaching, UYSA will be posting Southern Utah in person grassroots courses every quarter – Sept, Oct, Nov and Dec dates will be emailed and posted on the SU-IRL Facebook page as soon as registration is open.
